Landslide

I don’t have much energy for journal-writing.  But a lot’s happened, and I feel like I should post something.

S is gone.  She left three weeks ago.  That’s been rough.  I’m managing, but I’m certainly off balance.  My apartment is quiet and empty.

I went to D & A’s wedding in Chico shortly afterward.   D is one of my oldest friends — we’ve known each other since we were about 14.  It was a nice ceremony, short and simple, with a small group.  I borrowed D’s camera and was the ad hoc wedding photographer during the ceremony.  I’m not the most experienced photographer, but they turned out okay.

I left before the reception, because I needed to make my flight to Portland for OSCON. I had a pretty good week there, with good tech talks, co-workers to hang out with and pretty decent parties.  I visited Powell’s, of course, and dragged an extra few pounds of books home.

I went to PYM the following week (last week), at Walker Creek Ranch.  I haven’t been there in 15 years, since my first PYM.  That was actually less disconcerting than I expected.  But it was a great site, and there was a lot of hiking and swimming and sunburning.

Beyond that, I don’t think I can write anything that would do the PYM experience justice.  There were awesome people there.  It was emotionally overwhelming.  I’m really glad I went.  I’m still not really back in the real world, and I may not be for a while.

I’ve been keeping busy — maybe a little too busy, actually.  I have a lot I want to get done in the next week or two.  But hey, at least I can check “write blog post” off on my list.  :)
